Hiring a web developer feels simple — until the project is done and you realize you don’t actually control your oMany people pay for a website in full, then find out they can’t log in, can’t make changes, or get charged again for every small edit.
You can avoid all of it by asking five questions before you pay.
1. Who owns the website?
“I built you a website” and “you own your website” are not the same thing. Some developers build your site on their own account or license, so nothing comes with you if you leave.
Ask: “When we’re done, is the website fully mine, with all logins in my name?”
2. Do you get full access and files?
Even if you own the site, you need the keys to it: admin login, hosting access, domain access, and any design files. Without these, you go back to the same developer for every change, and pay each time.
Ask: “Will I get all logins and files handed over at the end?”
3. What’s included in the price?
“Website: Rs. 50,000” sounds clear until hosting, domain, or edits cost extra. Get it in writing first: how many pages, is it mobile-friendly, is hosting included, how many revisions, is basic SEO included.
Ask: “Can you list everything included, and anything that costs extra?”
4. What happens after launch?
Websites need care after they go live. Find out if there’s free support, for how long, what it costs after that, and whether they fix their own mistakes free.
Ask: “What support do I get after launch if something breaks?”
5. Can they show real work?
Anyone can claim to be great. Ask for live websites they’ve actually built, with working links. Even better, ask to speak to a past client.
Ask: “Can you share 2 or 3 live sites you’ve built?”
The bottom line
You’re not being difficult by asking these. A trustworthy developer answers all five happily, because they have nothing to hide. If someone gets vague or defensive, that tells you everything before you pay.
At DevBuggs, we answer all five before you ever pay. Full ownership, all your logins, fixed pricing, free support after launch, and real projects you can check yourself.
